Letters to Juliet
On Tuesday, May 18, 2010, I went to see the film Letters to Juliet, starring Amanda Seyfried.
This story is about Sophie, who's a fact checker, aspiring writer, who goes on a holiday with her fiancee to Verona, hoping to spend some time together with him.
The boyfriend, Vincent, however is too occupied to give Sophie his time as he's too pre-occupied with the opening of his restaurant, and checking out recipes, wines, cheeses, etc. They basically spend the holiday apart.
Sophie however, comes across this wall where women write letters to Juliet about love, asking for her advice. She sees this woman, after the wall has "closed" come and take all the letters away in a basket. She follows her and discovers that there are these women who respond to the letters that have return addresses on them and they call themselves Juliet's secretaries.
Upon spending a few days with Juliet's secretaries, Sophie comes across a letter addressed to Juliet that was dated in 1957. An unanswered letter for so long. So she does respond to the letter. Within a few days, a young man and his grandmother show up asking about the letter and they are off to find this older woman's lost love.
A truly touching movie, a bit of of a chick flick, perhaps cheesy at parts, but a nice movie that's relaxing. I enjoyed it thoroughly. A must see for sappy movie lovers, people who are looking for a movie on a date, or just a date to renew the spark (like married couples do - some of them - who go on dates).
