Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time

On Tuesday, July 27, 2010, I went to see the movie: Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time featuring Jake Gyllenhaal. This movie is based on the video game and is about an orphan who shows incredible courage and is adopted by the Persian King. He grows up amongst his brothers and even fights along side them!

However, things take a sinister twist when he learns about a sacred blade which allows the user to turn back time for one minute... And the whole story unfolds from there... As part of the celebration of taking a new city, Jake Gyllenhaal's character, Prince Dastan offers the King a robe. However, the robe has been poisoned with something that burns the King to death. Dastan is blamed for this death, of course.

What happens next? You'll have to watch the movie to find out. I don't know how true this is with regards to the video game, but it was enjoyable.

A pretty weird Saturday

On Saturday, July 24, 2010, I had a relatively bizarre Saturday.

I decided that I would go out to a club and enjoy a beer...

On the way out to the club, I got to the metro station that I was at and the metro was stopped at our station. I didn't notice that something was wrong until I got onto the platform. When I got to the station, I saw that there was a metro. I thought that it just arrived, so I rushed to get it. I saw a big crowd of people on the monitor, but in the quick instant of running to catch the metro, I thought nothing of it. I thought that maybe they were jamming the doors for fun and that metro police are on their way to clear this out.

As I approached, it turns out that a young man had been stabbed.

On the way back from the club, all decked out in club gear, I got to the Night bus terminal at about 3:05 a.m.. The next bus was at 3:30 a.m., so I decided to go into the 24 hour McDonald's close by to get an iced coffee or a quick sandwich. There, I saw two of my current summer school students. They are in my Secondary III math class.

What are Secondary III girls, going into secondary IV, so they are 15, maybe at most 16 year old doing at a 24 hour McDonald's on a Saturday evening/Sunday morning at 3:05 a.m..? I don't care if you went to a late showing of a movie - but no movie is THAT late. Where are the parents? Why would you let your teenage daughters be out at that time of night? Don't people set curfews anymore? When I was a teenager at that age, I had to be home at the latest 12:00 p.m..

Quite a bizarre evening.

I Am Love (Io sono l'amore)

On Tuesday, July 20, 2010 I went to see the movie I Am Love. In Italian, this film is called Io sono l'amore. This is an Italian film by Luca Guadagnino.

The story is about Emma Recchi (played by Tilda Swinton), the wife of a wealthy Recchi man who falls in love with someone else. We see her glamourous life, she has the money, the power, the jewelry, but she doesn't have affection and love. Her husband, Tancredi Reechi, is a partial owner of a textiles factory. She also has two children, Edouardo and Elisabietta.

Edouardo is a man of many interests. Throughout the movie, you realize that he and Emma have a special bond. She meets Antonio, a chef who tied with Edouardo for a cooking competition. We see Emma falling for this man and the tragic falling out from her actions.

Cinematographically, this film was well done. There were a lot of difficult camera shots. However, the movie was a bit cliché, including some tragedy at the end of the movie, which is a probably typical Italian trademark. What is this tragedy? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

I found the ending to be a bit disappointing though. It was also long. I thought some parts of the movie didn't move fast enough while other parts moved way too fast.

I hate hate hate hate hate the new web hotmail

As given by the post. I hate the new web-based hotmail.

Everything was tolerable, maybe even good UNTIL they decided to do a web-based MSN Messenger for chatting.

Every time I sign into my hotmail, it automatically logs me into hotmail.

I don't want that. When I check e-mail, I'm usually at work, so I don't need to be logged into MSN. I can't chat at work. If I check e-mail at home, I already have my MSN open.

I also can't find the option/menu that allows me to never sign in via my e-mail. At least not yet.

Stupid idiots that put this new option in. Stupid Microsoft.

Aah, the small pleasures in life

Today, while I was walking home from the metro to get home from dinner, I was walking along and there was also a guy who was walking the same direction as me.

We split up after a while and it turns out that we lived in the same building.

When I entered the lobby of our building, the guy came in behind me and then he asked, "Can I help you?"

To which I replied, "I live here." and I pulled out my keys.

Aah, the small incidents in life that make you smile a bit.

It turns out that this guy got here about two months ago, so he's pretty new in the building. His name, unfortunately however, is the same as one of my ex's. Of course, this name is pretty common, so it was probably only a matter of time, but still.

Toy Story 3

On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, I went to see the movie Toy Story 3.

Andy's all grown up... He's going off to college. His mother is asking him to pack his stuff for college. He's either going to pack stuff and it's either going with him to college or it's going into the attic. At the same time, his mother also asks Molly to sort through her toys to see which ones she can donate to Sunnyside, a daycare centre

Due to a mix up, his toys end up getting thrown out. However, they escape this fate and end up at Sunnyside. The toys thought that this was the best thing to happen to them since sliced bread, but they quickly learn that it is not as good as it would be... The toy leader, Lotsolove Bear, or Lotso, makes this place to be a paradise. However, he harbours a dark secret, which we learn as the movie continues...

Are Andy's toys forever going to be stuck in this place, or do they find a way to escape this horrible place?

Knight and Day

On Tuesday, July 6, 2010, I went to see the movie Knight and Day featuring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

The movie is about Roy Miller (Tom Cruise), a special agent who has gone rogue, and someone whom he picks up along the way, June Havens (Cameron Diaz). They met each other at the airport when Havens was going back to her baby sister's wedding.

After meeting Roy, she gets sucked into a world of a chase and conspiracy because federal agents are trying to hunt down Miller.

A movie with some laughs and lots of action. Although, a bit cheesy at times.

Lots of gun shots though. Lots!
