The Company Men

On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, I went to see the movie The Company Men featuring Ben Affleck, Kevin Cosner, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper.

The story is about a company, who had to downsize after the economic crisis. This movie follows the story of a few of the men from this company, who had high paying positions, in their quest to find a new job. Some found new jobs, some did other things... A very well acted movie. I enjoyed every minute of it.

The story line also makes me feel my own situation right now. I might be moved out of the position for the teacher whom I was replacing on the broken ankle after 32 days in the same position. All because of an incident involving three students that happened to occur in my last period class with a difficult group on Monday, Valentine's Day after they have eaten tons of sugar and chocolates all day.

Barney's Version

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, I went to see the movie Barney's Version. This movie features Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rosalind Pike as well as many Canadian stars (such as Paul Gross).

This movie is about Barney Panofsky and his life. We follow him through his experiences, both good and bad regarding his life, his multiple marriages, and his costly mistakes... As he nears the age of 65, a series of events, which I will not name, lets him realize what he has done, or not done, and puts his life into focus...

A film that deals with many issues, it is a drama with many very clever lines. I enjoyed the funny aspects of the film. I believe that this film had the perfect mixture of times where it made you laugh, but also made you think and perhaps shed a tear. Paul Giamatti gave a great performance. A must see in the theatre, if you are into dramas.

Made in Dagenham

On Tuesday, February 1, 2011, I went to see the movie Made in Dagenham. This is a movie based on the historical strike at the Ford Dagenham plant, which spread to other parts of the United Kingdom because of a bunch of women machinists' quest for equal pay. Their strike caused the halt of the entire Ford production line in England. According to the movie, the factory had to get the men to go on strike as well, or send them home without pay because they were not going to pay them for doing nothing.

I liked this film's progression. It started off slowly, building up the story. Eventually, you figure out what's wrong and then the real problem is introduced to the audience... The fact that Ford is hoping to get away with paying women less, so that they can pocket more profit.

There were some very noticeable stars in this film. Bob Hoskins and Rosamund Pike for example.

A very funny film that is very well done. You should take the time to go and watch this gem. It is well written and the humour is clever.
