Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D

On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, I went to see the movie Hansel and Gretel:  Witch Hunters 3D featuring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

This is a classic twist on the fairy tale where Hansel and Gretel (played by Renner and Arterton respectively) have become witch hunters because they survived the witch that trapped them in the candy house...

So, they have been on the hunt for witches for a long time and they get hired by the mayor of this town who have seen many children go missing.  We embark on a journey of Hansel and Gretel trying to find the children so that they are brought home and killing some witches along the way.

The make-up and special effects are nicely done, as well as the gore.  There was a bit of it, but not too much...  Tastefully done.  And their latest quest has actually got them finding out something about their past...

A fun movie with Jeremy Renner being very easy on the eyes...  The story was relatively well written too, for a film of this sort.

Quartet

On Tuesday, January 22, 2013, I went to see the movie Quartet.  This movie featured Maggie Smith, and Michael Gambon.

The story takes place at a retirement home for former musicians and they are getting ready for a concert that helps raise funds...  However, things are disrupted with the arrival of Jean Horton, a very well known opera diva...

This was Dustin Hoffman's first directorial debut...  And I thought it was great.  Not only was it funny, it was a witty funny and I think he did a very good job.  This is worthwhile to watch for the music, the witty humour and Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon.

The actor who played Reginald, Tom Courtenay, was also very good.

The Hobbit

On Tuesday, January 15, 2013, I went to see the movie The Hobbit.  This is the latest Peter Jackson trilogy based on the Tolkien books before The Lord of the Rings.

The characters are based on the same ones and they have pretty much used the same actors.  I didn't know that Elijah Wood was going to be in this movie, but I kind of figured as much.

Lots of good scenery, good camera work, good story telling and great modelling.  Highly recommended.

Anna Karenina

On Tuesday, January 7, 2012, I went to see the movie Anna Karenina, featuring Keira Knightley and Jude Law.

This movie is based on the book of the same name, by Tolstoy.

I don't know what the book is about, but the movie is about this woman named Anna Karenina, who was married to a very important person in Russia (played by Jude Law)

She ends up falling in love with another man, a general, and then the whole story pans out...

I guess I don't know enough about this to comment upon it.  But I have to say that Keira Knightley and Jude Law gave stellar performances.
