Dans la Maison (In The House)

On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, I went to see the movie Dans la Maison.  The movie features Fabrice Luchini and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Luchini's character, Germain, is a French teacher at a French lycĂ©e.  He is discouraged about his students, especially after he gives them an assignment at the beginning of the year to write about their weekend.

However, one particular paper catches his eye.  It is by his student, Claude Garcia.  Germain believes that this student is really gifted and can become a writer one day.  However, on his quest to try and nurture this child's interest, the scenarios get more and more disturbing and dark...  What does Germain do?  Does he call it quits and puts the kid in his place, or does he go with it, allowing himself to be manipulated by the kid in a dark and twisted way?

You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

I enjoyed this movie.  Well acted, with just the right amount of suspense.  I thought this was really well done and worth my money.

Oblivion

On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, I went to see the movie Oblivion featuring Morgan Freeman and Tom Cruise.

This movie is about Earth in the future.  There was a war between humans and an alien race and apparently humans won the war, but the planet is completely destroyed.  So, there's a mop up crew to take care of the drones and squash the scavengers.

We start off with Jack, who's responsible for fixing drones and what not...  He's got these memories that keep coming back to him.  He does his job, but wonders whether or not he's really doing the right thing.  One day, he discovers a shipwreck and goes and investigates.  There, he discovers a survivor...  He manages to save only one, since all the other ones were destroyed by the drone.

And then things get interesting from here.

I didn't particularly enjoy the movie.  I thought the plot was weak and that it was all science fiction themes mixed into one...  For the first time in a long time, I feel that this is one of the movies that I have seen where I am going "M'eh".

Jurassic Park (3D)

On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, I went to see the movie Jurassic Park in 3D.  There is no difference between this movie and the original, except it is in fake 3D.  The actors are the same, the story line is the same...  Just in 3D.

Now, since I have never seen the original in full, it was a fun experience.  The story is about a guy who has oodles of money and he wants to open a theme park that is based in dinosaurs.  However, due to a recent incident, his insurance company requests that he seeks the expert opinion of a few professors involved with studies in dinosaur and what not.

Anyway, a disgruntled employee, the programmer, he is in some financial trouble and he cannot extort the money, so he decides to steal specimens of dinosaurs to others, so that they too can breed dinosaurs.  However, in his quest to get this, (e.g. to commit the perfect crime), he shuts off many systems, including the electric fence system, so that predators like T-Rex and the Raptor can escape and hunt people.

The people who deserved to die didn't.  The people who don't deserve to die, they do.  Enough said.

Jack the Giant Slayer

On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, I went to see the movie Jack the Giant Slayer, featuring Nicolas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy.

This movie is a more adult version of the fairy tale that we know...  About Jack and the giant bean stalk that grows out of the ground near his house because of magic beans.

However, this movie explores all of the areas involving this story...  Giant-human relationships, etc. as well as an extension as to what happens if the giants could somehow get towards the ground and fight us?

A nice fantasy story...  The special effects were great.  I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was very nice...

A nice story to enjoy the graphics with.
