Magic in the Moonlight

On Tuesday, September 30, 2014, I went to see the movie Magic in the Moonlight.  This movie features Emma Stone and Colin Firth.

Colin Firth plays Stanley, or Wei Ling Soo (his alias on stage as a magician), who gets asked by his friend Howard Burkan, a fellow magician, to debunk a fradulent spiritualist, because Howard says that he cannot do it.

So, Stanley puts off his vacation with his fiancee, Olivia to go on this trip to try and debunk this fraudulent medium.  What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

But Always ( 一生一世)

On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, I went to see the movie But Always (一生一世).  This is a movie featuring Chinese actors Yuanyuan Gao and Nicolas Tse.

The movie is about two friends, who live in Beijing in the 1970s that meet at school.  As years progress, they get to know each other, only to have it cut short as Zhao Yongyuan (the boy who is later played by Nicolas Tse) being whisked off to live with his uncle in Guangdong, since his grandfather passed away.  Zhao Yongyuan meets An Ran years later, when he is back in Beijing to help his uncle with a business.  We learn at that point that An Ran has decided to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a doctor.

What follows next is a story of love through time between these two.  What happens?  Well, you'll have to watch to find out.  But, I will say that much time is spent in New York as the film's storyline is developing.

Lucy

On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, I went to see the movie Lucy featuring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman.

The movie is about Lucy, who gets dragged into a drug trade.  They hide the drugs in the lower stomach so that the people bring it past them without trouble.  Then, the drugs are collected.  For our main character, Lucy, she also got that too, but on her way to the airport, she gets kidnapped and while she was beaten, the drug that was inside her breaks open and her body absorbs some of it.  Through this, she is able to activate more than 10% of her brain.

What happens?  She decides to turn the table on her captors and stop this terrible deal...  How does this turn out?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

Guardians of the Galaxy

On Tuesday, September 2, 2014, I went to see the movie Guardians of the Galaxy.  This movie features Chris Pratt, Zoe Sandana and voiceover work of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

The movie is about Peter Quill (aka Starlord), who's an outlaw and a thief.  He steals an orb that Ronan the accuser wants and that leads him onto a wild adventure where he meets some interesting people along the way:  Gamara, an assassin played by Zoe Sandana, Rocket, a giant racoon who kicks some ass, Groot, a living tree who does many amazing things and Drax, a really strong fighter.

Together, they form the Guardians of the Galaxy and they defend the universe against Ronan.  And some other bad guys.

A highly amusing movie and I enjoyed myself.  Bu I might have enjoyed it more if I had read the comic before hand.
