I Fucking Hate Facebook

I fucking hate Facebook!

I am already not a big fan of social media, but I recently got into it.

But, because I am in education, I decided to use a variant of my name on the account.

Since Facebook is so Big Brother, they have decided to lock me out because "I appear to have multiple accounts" or "not using my real identity".

So frustrated right now!

Still Alice

On Tuesday, February 17, 2015, I went to see the movie Still Alice.  This movie features Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart.

The movie is about Dr. Alice Howland, a renown linguistics professor at Columbia University in NYC, who starts losing little words.  Then, she gets a diagnosis that she has Alzheimer's Disease.  As she deals with her memory loss and her disease, her family has to also deal with this.

What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  Julianne Moore did a fantastic job with the acting in this movie.  But I don't think she got an Oscar nod for it.

Oh and her son in the movie, Hunter Parrish, who plays Tom, her son who is finishing med school.  He's hot.

Running Man

On Tuesday, February 10, 2015, I went to see the movie Running Man.

This movie is based upon this reality show that's very popular in China, where there are teams and they compete against each other for prizes and to win challenges.

So, the movie starts the same way.  However, this time around, they have thrown in a killer, so the challenge is to find the killer before they all get killed.

A light and entertaining movie.  Not going to be a nomination for the best foreign film at the Oscars, for sure.  I am a bit disappointed because I feel that the summary that I read did not represent this movie.  This was more a murder-mystery that's happening in film format.  Of course, the viewer can attempt to find out who the killer is.  However, I thought it was a film with plot and where someone's actually doing the killing (at least in the story line)

Canadians are too nice and too forgiving

I just got note from my bank that as of next month, I need to keep an extra $500 in my bank account to avoid the monthly transaction fees.  This, of course, is a result of the correction of the oil prices and the decrease by a quarter of a percent for the interest rate.  Right now, the banks are not making money by lending money, so they are going to again squeeze us for more money.

All the banks know how to do, driven by greedy business people who want more money in their pockets, is squeeze their customers for more money.  Could you imagine the amount of money that the bank now has since many of their customers are going to put an extra $500 in the bank account to avoid fees?  Not to mention all of the fees that people might/will now have to fork out to keep using their bank accounts?

And when the economy is going well...  Do the banks ever give us a break?  No...  They just keep going...  Business as usual and keep pocketing our money.

On top of all this, Canadian consumers tend to be too forgiving.  I have not heard a single person complain about the minimum balance going up to keep the fee waived status.  In July 2014, Porter introduced the American system of charging for checked luggage on domestic flights.  Canadians just accepted it like doormats.  Westjet, seeing that Porter was getting away with it, announced their fee hike for domestic flights in September 2014 and then shortly after, Air Canada.  For Westjet, it was after October 28, 2014 and for Air Canada, it was after November 2 or 3, 2014 that they charged customers for checking luggage on a domestic flight.

Now that we are having adjusted fuel prices, are these companies giving us a break?  Are the prices for the plane tickets cheaper?  No!  Have they gone back to letting us check luggage without any additional fees?  No!

And what did the Canadian public do?  Nothing!  They just sat there and let it happen.  How do I know this?  I started a petition that never took off.  I have a grand total of nine signatures.

If Canadians were truly less pushover consumers, we would have had more noise and people finding ways to boycott the airline companies.  If Canadians were truly less pushover consumers, we would have more noise and people making the Big Five accountable for their money and to their consumers and making this fee increase be justified.  All of these fee increases are masked as requirements but in reality it's just a money grab because of greed.

Wild

On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, I went to see the movie Wild, featuring Reese Witherspoon and directed by Jean-Marc VallĂ©e.  This movie is about Cheryl Strayed, who also wrote a book about her journey, who hiked the PCT (Pacific Coast Trail) dealing with the loss of her mother.  This movie is more about the journey that happened inside of Cheryl rather than the actual journey along the west coast.

I know this is a week late.  I forgot last week and this week, I watched The Imitation Game again, so, no review there...  Except to say that I feel the movie was better the second time!
