Brooklyn

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, I went to see the movie Brooklyn, featuring Saoirese Ronan, Jim Broadbent, and Julie Walters.

The movie is about Eilis, who is an Irish girl in Ireland, who emigrates to Brooklyn, NY for her future, as she cannot find work in Ireland.  She leaves behind her sister and her mother.

As she settles into her new life in Brooklyn, NY, she starts taking bookkeeping classes at Brooklyn College and meets a nice young man.  However, she gets terrible news that her sister passes away unexpectedly and she has to go back to Ireland to help her mother.  Before she leaves, she secretly marries her husband.

What happens when she goes to Ireland?  You'll have to watch to find out!

Trumbo

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, I went to see the movie Trumbo.

This movie is about the live of Dalton Trumbo, who was a very talented screenwriter.  However, after WWII, his beliefs and his involvement with the Communist Party of America caused him and a whole bunch of other writers to be on the black list.

This movie shows the struggles and the life of these screenwriters and how Hollywood reacted during that time.

This was very well done.  The acting was good, the writing was decent and there were quite a few funny lines in there.

Secret in Their Eyes

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, I went to see the movie Secret in Their Eyes featuring Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor.  The movie is about Jess (played by Roberts), whose daughter was found raped and murdered...  And how the person who was responsible for this was "getting away with it" because he was also an informant for the war on terror...

So, essentially a criminal was being let go because he was an informant against the war on terrorism.

What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  I found this movie slow moving, but the ending was a bit interesting.
