1:54

On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, I went to see the movie 1:54, featuring Antoine-Olivier Pilon, Sophine NĂ©lisse, Lou-Pascal Tremblay and Robert Naylor.  This movie is about Tim, a shy, bright geek into chemistry, who is also a natural runner.  But, he hides a secret.  He's struggling with his sexuality...  He's gay.

His best friend, whom he finds out is also gay, ends up committing suicide because of the bullying that he faces.

What follows is a story of complex dimensions, him struggling to continue running, but being threatened with exposure to the school of his sexuality, at the hands of Jeff, who's just a real douchebag.

Though a touching story, and some shock value at the end, I find it incredibly frustrating that the bullying, intimidation and the homophobia was not dealt with by the administration of this school.  After one suicide, you would think they would amp up the looking for the problem, but it didn't.  As someone who works in the school system, I find it frustrating that the perpetrators were not dealt with...  Especially in the beginning of the movie, the perpetrators are the ones who threw food at the two characters.  I know that if a food fight (or any type of food was thrown at my school), that student is automatically suspended and all privileges revoked...  No teams of any sort, etc.  So, this Jeff, wouldn't have been able to be on the running team or the track team from the first place.

Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children

On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, I went to see the movie Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children, featuring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield and Samuel L. Jackson.

This is a Tim Burton movie, based on the book with the same name.  The movie is about Jake, who discovers that his grandfather had been killed.  Before his grandfather dies, he tells Jake to find this school that he has been telling Jake about, all through his childhood.

Jake finds the school that his grandfather was talking about and finally gets there.  However, it is clear that there is a danger because other peculiar children in other "loops" are being hunted down.

How does the movie end?  You'll have to watch it to find out.

Snowden

On Sunday, October 10, 2016, I went to see the movie Snowden, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  The movie is by Oliver Stone, based on the story of Edward Snowden, who leaked a bunch of documents to foreign press regarding the surveillance by the NSA of its citizens.

I don't know the real Snowden, but I think that Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a good job of portraying the character and did a good job of acting out the part.

And regardless if you believe that he was wrong in what he did and hiding out in Russia, or if you thought he was a saint for what he did...  This movie was well done and worth seeing.

L.O.R.D. - Legend of the Ravaging Dynasties

On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, I went to see the movie L.O.R.D. - Legend of the Ravaging Dynasties.

This is a movie based on a fantasy story in Chinese culture.  The plot/storyline was very hard to follow, but it was very nice.  I enjoyed it.  Though, I was a bit lost.
