Sing

On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, I went to see the movie Sing, featuring the voice talents of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlene, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, Jennifer Saunders and a few other stars.

This movie is about Buster Moon, who fell in love with theatre at the young age of six.  He eventually buys a theatre, but puts out flop after flop after flop of musicals/plays.  He's in pretty bad financial shape because he cannot afford to pay the stage crew.  He also has calls from the bank manager all the time.

So, Buster decides to put on a singing show, to save his theatre.  So, he decides to release some posters about animals auditioning for the show, with a grand prize of $100 000.

Through these adventures, we meet the major singing stars, Gunther and Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Mike (Seth Macfarlene), Ash (Scarlett Johansson), Johnny (Taron Egerton) and Meena (Tori Kelly).  Each of these chracters brings a story to the movie and have their obstacles to overcome.

How does the movie end?  You'll have to watch it to find out.  I really enjoyed the movie, even though I found that the ending was a little bit flat.

Collateral Beauty

On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, I went to see the movie Collateral Beauty featuring Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Ed Norton, Michael Peña, Naomie Harris and Jacob Latimore.

The movie is about Howard, played by Will Smith, who lost a child due to a rare form of cancer.  This was three years ago.  However, today, we see that he still has not gotten over the loss of his daughter and because of it, his work suffers.  Being a high profile owner of a marketing company, over the years of him dealing with the loss of his daughter and not continuing the relationships with the clients, the company has lost more and more of the accounts.  The dilemma is that there is another company who has offered to buy them over, and they would be able to keep their creative license.  However, since Howard is the major shareholder, he would have the final say.

Whit, who lives with his mother suffering from Alzeimer's, realizes that an approach that he does with his mother might work with Howard.  Whit lives the reality that his mother lives, instead of forcing her to see reality.  So, he decides that they hire actors to play the parts of death, love and time, so that they answer Howard's letters personally.  (Howard had written letters earlier in the movie to these three entities)

What happens next?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  I enjoyed this one.

La La Land

On Saturday, January 7, 2017, I went to see the movie La La Land, featuring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

This movie is about Sebastian (played by Ryan Gosling), an aspiring jazz pianist, who falls in love with Mia (played by Emma Stone), an aspiring actor.  They fall in love, they have their struggles, there are musical interludes, as it is a tribute to the musicals out there...  What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

A great movie to watch with friends, or on a date...  So good on so many levels!
