Hidden Figures

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, I went to see the movie Hidden Figures, featuring Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Costner.

This movie is based on the story of three African-American women:  Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine G. Johnson who made significant contributions to space trajectory, putting the first man on the moon, etc.

However, it also shows the hardships of women of colour and being discriminated against.

A well done movie, but the character that Kevin Costner plays was invented and did not exist in real life.

Journey to the West: The Demon Strikes Back

On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, I went to see the movie Journey to the West:  The Demon Strikes Back.  This movie is the most recent one by Stephen Chow.

The movie is loosely based upon the classic folklore of the Journey to the West.  There are many action scenes, involving conquering of demons, as well as funny scenes, since the movie involves Stephen Chow.

A great movie with lots of laughs...  Highly enjoyed it!  The action was a good mix with the humour.

The Red Turtle (La tortue rouge)

On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, I went to see the movie The Red Turtle (La tortue rouge), which is the first Studio Ghibli film done overseas.

The movie is about our protagonist, who gets shipwrecked and ends up on an island.  He builds rafts to try and escape, but they get broken down.  Eventually, he realizes that a red turtle is preventing him from leaving the island.

This movie is dialogue-less, but it's not soundless or communication-less.  A worthwhile film to watch, as it causes your mind to wander and ask many questions.  Which are worthwhile questions to be asked.

A Dog's Purpose

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, I went to see the movie A Dog's Purpose, featuring Dennis Quaid and Peggy Lipton.

The story is about a dog, Bailey, who was adopted by Ethan.  Actually, he was rescued by Ethan, because two workers just kept Bailey as a puppy and left him in the car in the heat.

So, eventually Ethan's family adopts Bailey and Bailey and Ethan makes up a pack...  But as Bailey grows old, things happen to Ethan and they eventually part ways.  Bailey comes back as other lives and helps other people do things and meet people...  And he experiences some good lives and some not-so-good lives.

What happens at the end?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out!
