The Last Word

On Tuesday, March 28, 2017, I went to see the movie The Last Word featuring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried.  The movie is about Harriet, played by Shirley MacLaine, who is a retired business woman of a marketing firm.  But we see that she's very lonely.  We also see that she wants to, possibly needs to control everything.

She reads someone's obituary and decides that she must meet the author of it.  This person would be Anne, played by Amanda Seyfried.  Harriet hires Anne to write her obituary before she dies, so that she can control that too.

However, Anne does not want to follow along and insists on getting to know Harriet, her story and her family.  But through this act, she forms a friendship and learns about Harriet as well as herself in ways that she (Anne) would never expect.

Beauty and the Beast (2017)

On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, I went to see the movie Beauty and the Beast (2017), featuring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Hattie Morahan, Ewan McGregor, Sir Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci.  This movie is a real-life adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which was a Disney animated release in 1991.  It's the story of Beauty and the Beast, of course, but it is not exactly the same story as the animated feature.

I believe the casting was done very well and it was a very elegant movie.  I started crying maybe about ten minutes into the movie and I was crying practically all the way through.  So well done!

Ballerina (Leap!)

On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, I went to see the movie Ballerina.  This is an animated movie with voice acting by Carly Rae Jepson and Elle Fanning.

The movie is about an orphan, Félicie, who dreams of becoming a dancer.  Her best friend, Victor, dreams of becoming an inventor.  Together, they escape to Paris, where Félicie gets a chance to become a pupil at the Grand Opera House.  Victor also gets a chance as well to pursue his dreams as an inventor, but the movie focuses more on Félicie.

A charming movie that I really enjoyed.  I was quite surprised.

Lion

On Saturday, March 4, 2017, I went to see the movie Lion, featuring Dev Patel, Rooney Mary and Nicole Kidman.

The story is about Saroo, a five-year old Indian boy who gets lost in the streets of Kalkota (Calcutta).  Eventually, he is rounded up to go into an orphanage and he is adopted by a family in Tasmania.

However, as Saroo becomes of age and starts a new career, he is haunted by the past that he once had and feels guilty.  He spends his time trying to figure it all out.

What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  You will also discover why the movie is called Lion towards the end of the movie.

This was a really good movie!
