Stronger

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, I went to see the movie Stronger, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal.  This movie is based upon the life of Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013.  He lost both his legs as a result of standing so close to the bomb.

The movie is based on the true story, but I think certain things were embellished.

But Gyllenhaal's acting in this, wow!

Detroit

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, I went to see the movie Detroit, featuring John Boyega.

The movie is about the riots in Detroit in 1967 and the story is centred around the incidents at the Algiers Motel, where three African-American men were found shot dead and several other African-American men as well as two white women were brutally beaten.

While this movie is based on the incident and the trials after, some parts were fictionalized and/or dramatized for the purposes of the movie, as there was not enough documentation for the incident so some of it was done with accounts of the individuals.

This movie was incredibly well done and very powerful.  It reminded me of the extreme white privilege that white Americans have and especially if they were on the police force.  It made me think of the numerous incidents that I have read about happening in the United States and even in Canada.

One woman was in tears at the end of the movie because she had a cousin whom she lost to police brutality.  She stated that she saw her cousin in the movie.

Despicable Me 3 and The Glass Castle

On Monday, September 4, 2017, I went to see the movie Despicable Me 3, featuring Steve Carell, Kristen Whig.  This story is about Gru, who was in pursuit of a criminal mastermind, Belthazar Bratt.  Bethazar was in the middle of trying to steal the world's largest diamond, but he was foiled by Gru and Stacey.  He got a away, but the diamond was saved.

However, Gru was fired by the new director of the AVL (Anti-villain league).  Stacey, trying to stick up for Gru, also gets herself fired.

At this moment, Gru's twin brother sends an invite for Gru to go visit him.

What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  I found it fun, but a bit predictable.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2017, I went to see the movie The Glass Castle featuring Brie Larson, Naomi Watts, Woody Harrelson and Max Greenfield.  This movie is based on the author's childhood and life, Jeanette Wells and her childhood, along with her siblings.

It was well done.  The acting was phenomenal.
