Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

On Saturday, July 28, 2018, I went to see the movie Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

This movie is a spinoff of the original Mamma Mia! storyline.  They added many new songs, but some of the songs were done in the first movie.  Some of these songs were also in the stage production that didn't get a chance to make it into the movie adaptation.

The story is told between modern Sophie, who's now pregnant and young Donna who left school and went through the summer.

Donna's dead (Boo!).  The story that young Donna lives through is not exactly what the diary states.  It was a nice selection of songs that were chosen, but it was hard or me to get into the story.

But it was nice to have some of the songs in the original key as the musical.

Not fantastic or life changing, but not two hours of my life I will never get back.  It's a nice way to spend some time and get into some ABBA music.

Incredibles 2

On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, I went to see the movie Incredibles 2.  This is the sequel to the first Incredibles movies, which was released in 2004.

The movie follows the same gang of superheroes living as regular people, the Parrs.  It takes off exactly where the first movie leaves off, where the Underminer shows up and the Incredibles try to save the day.

Even though they do, Superheroing is still illegal.  The Parrs are relocated, but as a result of these latest shenanigans, the Superhero relocation program is officially shut down.  The Parrs have two weeks in a motel.  After that, they are on their own.

During this latest encounter, Frozone comes across someone who believes that it was wrong for the government to outlaw Superheroism.  So, he gets both Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible to meet this person along with Frozone.

It turns out that their benefactor is Winston Deavor, the brother of the brother and sister team at Devtech.  Winston wants the superhero outlawing to be overturned.

What happens?  You'll have to watch to find out!

Whitney

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, I went to see the movie Whitney.  This is a documentary about the life of Whitney Houston.

The director interviews people in her entourage and pieces together her life, her struggles, her childhood, etc.

A very interesting movie.  It was very well done.

Heart Beats Loud

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018 I went to see the movie Heart Beats Loud, featuring Nick Offerman, who plays the character Frank Fisher as well as Kiersey Clemons, who plays his daughter, Sam Fisher.

The movie is about Frank Fisher, who runs a record shop.  However, due to slumping business sales, and as well as Frank's lack of motivation, he decides not to renew the lease for his shop.

His daughter is taking a pre-med class during the summer and will start med school at UCLA in the fall.

The movie starts with Frank trying to get his daughter's mind off of homework, as they both have strong music backgrounds and interests.  They have a jam session and record a song that was written by Sam.

Frank believes that this song is amazing, so he uploads it to Spotify.  He didn't think that there would be a chance for the song to take off, but it somehow does!

So, father and daughter bond over more song writing and jamming.  We also learn that Sam is a lesbian and falls in love with Rose.

Unfortunately, Frank does not decide to save his record shop, so he decides to have a jam with his daughter on the last day of the store opening.

Adrift

On Tuesday, July 3, 2018, I went to see the movie Adrift featuring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin.

The movie is about Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin).  They find each other in Tahiti and fall in love.  Then they were asked by mutual friends to sail a boat back to San Diego, because they had to go back to London, England urgently.

Unfortunately, during their voyage, they sail right into a Category 5 storm.  The boat suffered major damage and Tami rescues Richard and tries to survive adrift.  What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

This is based on a true story.  So, very inspiring.
