Cat-sitting, Day 3

Today is day three in my career as a cat-sitter. Things are about the same... The other cat still hisses at me. This morning, it was sitting on the brushing bed, and when I approached, it hissed at me... And then it hid underneath the bed for a good long while.

At least it ate tonight. The other cat is friendly, although it was doing bad stuff to get my attention (i.e. on the stove). I played with it twice today, but she stops in the middle of play, and I assume she's done.

I have to feed them their second serving of the food... I haven't gotten dinner myself, actually. This is quite hectic!

We'll see if I can brush the other cat tonight, she seems to be hissing less at me. Who knows.

Do the cats you're cat-sitting eat ALL of their food each time, or do they know how to portion their meals?

We just fill Neechee's bowl with food at night before we go to sleep (so he doesn't wake us up asking for food)... and that's it for the day, aside from the occasional treat.

It's a little bit of both... They do know how to portion control, but my friend also does the portion control as well... The cats here eat organic raw chicken cat food. Each patty feeds both of them for a day, and they eat twice a day... So, it's half a patty for each of them... However, each feeding is divided into two feedings, so they each get an 1/8 of a patty twice in the morning, and twice in the evening. Each feeding is about an hour or more from the previous one, so that they don't vomit. There's this elm extract that I add to it too, it's supposed to facilitate regularity or something like that.

However, if the cat for some reason is not hungry, they don't touch the food... And what I do then is I plastic wrap it, and then reattempt to feed it the next feeding. It's a waste to prepare all that food and then have them not touch it.

The cats don't wake me up in the night for food, they know better.

Those are some high maintenance cats you're sitting! :-P Didn't know that about elm extract, but Neechee loves grass, fruits, and veggies... and if cats' digestive system is anything like ours, I think all that fiber helps...?
