Snow White and the Huntsman

On Tuesday, July 31, 2012, I went to see the movie Snow White and the Huntsman featuring Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.

This is the other movie that's based upon the fairy tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.  There was another movie that was also based on the same fairy tale that was released earlier in the year.  This one is the darker one of the two.

I won't really go into the story, as many people have an idea of what happens in the fairy tale.  So, I will do it in two parts, the good and the bad.

Good:  Chris Hemsworth and the men in this movie.  Good looking, rugged, some acting involved.  I didn't even recognize Bob Hoskins, whom I adore.  Also good, was Charlize Theron as the role of Ravenna.  The guy who played William, Sam Claflin, was also quite handsome.  The special effects were also quite good.

Bad:  Kristen Stewart.  She couldn't act worth a damn.  I never saw her in the Twilight series but I don't really want to either.  I just feel that they took her out of the Twilight movies, told her to have the same facial expressions and then did another film out of it.

It's a nice movie to watch, the men are nice and it's a perfect date movie.  Too bad I didn't get to go and watch this movie on a date.

The Amazing Spider Man

On Sunday, July 29, 2012, I went to see the movie The Amazing Spiderman.  This is the forth movie in the franchise and it is a prequel to the three Spiderman movies.

This movie features the talents of Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Emma Stone, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary.

This movie talks about how Peter Parker, who's a teenager at the time, gets his super powers as Spiderman and discovers his past history.  His parents who left him when he was really young and he also stumbles across a file that his father kept secret and hidden from many people.

Andrew Garfield was great as Peter Parker.  I thought he played a good role when he was trying to learn about his powers and how he was still getting used to his super powers.  We see his evolution and the story of Spiderman and how he loses Uncle Ben and becomes Spiderman.

It was a fun movie, there were funny parts and I really enjoyed Andrew Garfied as Spiderman, more so than Tobey McGuire.

To Rome with Love

On Tuesday, July 24, 2012, I went to see the movie To Rome with Love.  This is Woody Allen's latest movie.

This movie is about five couples who are in love and the stories that go with them.  We have a couple that consists of a tourist from New York and an Italian from Naples, a newly married couple from a small town in Italy, a regular run-of-the-mill middle class couple who has a family, a couple who are both university students that take on a femme fatale that supposedly is so beautiful that the girl is afraid that the boy would fall in love with her...

What happens in the movie?  You'll have to watch it to find out.  It's nice to see Woody Allen in a movie where he is on screen for more than five minutes.

This movie has a few big stars:  Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg, for example.

Brave

On Tuesday, July 17, 2012, I went to see the movie Brave in 3D.  This is Pixar's latest movie.

This movie is about Princess Merida, who is about to be betrothed to a fitting suitor.  She does not agree with this, so she starts up a new tradition that puts people in jeopardy, since it involves a spell from a witch.

I can't say more without giving the movie away.  However, this was well done for a Pixar movie and I highly enjoyed it.  It also features the voice talents of Emma Thompson as the Queen (Elinor) and Julie Walters as the witch.

A highly enjoyable movie.  Definitely worth seeing in the theatre.

Take This Waltz and Les Misérables

On Tuesday, July 10, 2012, I went to see the movie Take This Waltz, featuring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen and Luke Kirby.

The movie is about Michelle William's character, Margot, who is married to Seth Rogan's character Lou.

On a trip to Louisburg, Nova Scotia, Margot meets an artist, played by Luke Kirby, whose name is Daniel and she falls in love with him.  Things get even more challenging as she realizes that he lives across the street.

This film explores marriages, relationships, love, emotion.  I found the film a bit thin on humour and a bit long.  But Michelle William's acting was quite good.

At the beginning of the movie, I saw the following trailer.  I am very excited for Les Misérables, the musical version that is scheduled to be released at Christmas time 2012.

Magic Mike

On Tuesday, July 3, 2012, I went to see the movie Magic Mike featuring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Matthew McConnaughey.

This movie is about Channing Tatum's character, Mike, also known as Magic Mike, who is a male stripper.  He takes Alex Pettyfer's character, Adam, under his wing and watches over him as he becomes a stripper also at the bar.

There are some side storylines like budding romances between Mike and some of his many conquests, with whom he clicks, and his interest in Adam's sister and then also Adam who lives the lifestyle to the fullest.

There was a lot of dancing however, very very nice dancing.  Makes a lot of the strip clubs that I've been too, which is never my idea to go, look like child's play.  It's amazing.  The dancing in the movie is great, all the real live shows I've gone too are way sub par.

And another surprise today...  Someone whom I didn't know, that my friend met, came to the movie...

Horoscope today

So, in the newspaper, the horoscope I got today was:

Vous irez de surprise en surprise aujourd'hui (translation:  You will go from surprise to surprise today)

Now, I don't really pay attention to my horoscope because I don't think it is very accurate.  But, the amount of surprises I have gotten today, I cannot ignore the coincidence.

1) I find out that the bus I am supposed to take to get to school now arrives 5 minutes when it used to and that the route that I will be using this summer to get to school now has buses on intervals of 20 minutes instead of 30 minutes;
2) I find out that a guy whom I wanted to meet a year ago when he came to visit Montreal for a coffee (but we were unable to because I was a substitute teacher and I got called last minute into work) now has met the perfect man...  And all the time while he was living in Montreal, didn't make an effort to have that coffee with me - even when I tried to get in touch;
3) I find out that I am only assigned two summer school classes this summer, instead of three which I have gotten in previous years and I might be $700 shorter as I have no job in September;
4) I find out that a student I had today while I was replacing a course for someone (Sec IV math course) is the brother of a former student I taught at The Sacred Heart School of Montreal;
5) I find out that a friend of mine from Ottawa is in town for a bizarre reason tomorrow in Montreal;

And it's only 3:10 p.m..

I wonder how many more surprises (both good and bad) I am going to get today...
