Midnight's Children

On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, I went to see the movie Midnight's Children.  This movie is based upon the book of the same name, by Salman Rushdie.  The movie was directed by Deepa Metha.

This movie is about two babies, who were both born very close to the stroke of midnight at India's Independence.  A nurse switches the two babies and condemns the rich baby to a poor man's life and gives the poor baby a rich man's life.

It also treats the topics of India's Independence, civil wars over regions, etc. etc. I haven't read the book, so I cannot comment on how authentic it is, but I did really think that the movie was very well done.

This two and a half hour movie is not a light movie.  It is a movie that is dramatic and requires you to think.  I thought that Deepa Metha did a good job with this movie.
