Captain Phillips

On Tuesday, October 29, 2013, I went to see the movie Captain Phillips featuring Tom Hanks.

This movie is about his character, Captain Richard Phillips, who takes the Maersk Alabama from Oman through the Somali waters where this ship gets highjacked by Somali pirates.  We look at Phillips relationship with the Pirate captain.

This was a very suspenseful thriller where the acting was also quite good.  It also shows how the crew works together to retake their ship.  I believe that Tom Hanks was really good in this movie.  Worth it for the acting and the action shots.

Prisoners

On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, I went to see the movie Prisoners featuring Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano.

This movie is about two suburban families, the Dovers and the Birchs, who have each a young daughter.

It's Thanksgiving and there is a dinner at the Birch residence.  The Dovers go over with a fresh kill of deer for the meal.  Before dinner, the two girls go outside and are accompanied by the elder Dover brother and the Birch sister.  The two girls get fascinated with this RV who is driving slowly in the neighbourhood.  The two older siblings carry them back to the house for dinner.

After dinner, the two young ones say they are going to go to the Dover residence to search for a lost bird whistle.  This was lost by the younger Dover daughter, Anna.  However, they were discovered to be lost and nowhere to be found a short while later.

The case gets reported to the police and we have Detective Loki, played by Gyllenhaal, assigned to the case.

What happens?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

Personally for me, I don't feel the movie was well done.  I mean, the acting was great.  Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano all played their roles very well.  However, I feel that this was a result of BAD parenting.  The girls should have never been let out in the first place, even under the guidance of their older siblings...  Dinner was almost ready.  Also, they climbed onto a stranger's RV...  Didn't these idiot girls learn that you should not approach strangers?  Ever heard of the "Don't take candy from strangers" rule?

Secondly, they asked to leave again after dinner.  They were supposed to get their older siblings, but they did not.  And they clearly didn't go to the house to find the whistle...  Or if they did, they decided that it was okay to take a detour and climb/ride in the RV again.

So, idiot girls caused this unnecessary drama that wasted taxpayer's money, because the police were out looking for them.  Of course, if they were well behaved little girls that actually listened to their parents, none of this would have occurred.

Don Jon

On Saturday, I went to see the movie Don Jon, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlet Johansson, Tony Danza and Julianne Moore.

The movie is about Don, who has an amazing body and good looks and can score every weekend.  He meets this girl, Barbara Sugarman at a club and is smitten with her.

However, Don has an obsession with porn...  He feels that he gets more satisfaction watching porn...

How does it all end?  Does it work out with Barbara?  You will have to watch it to find out.

You will also have to watch it to see what Julianne Moore has to do with anything in this movie.

Enough Said

On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, I went to see the movie Enough Said, featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Toni Collette.

The movie is about Dreyfus, who plays Eva, a divorced woman with a daughter.  She earns her living as a masseuse.  One day, she goes to this party and meets a writer/poet as well as a guy at a party.  The writer/poet accepts Eva's card and calls her for a massage.  The dude calls Eva for a date...  But he gets her number through Sarah (played by Collette), Eva's friend.

As Eva starts to massage this new client and starts to date this new guy, she comes to the realization that her new man, Albert (played by James Galdolfini) was her client's ex-husband.

How does it all end?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  It's only an hour and a half, so it's not too long...  And there were many parts where I had a hearty laugh.

The Family

On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, I went to see the movie The Family, featuring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones.

This movie is about Frank Manzoni, under the alias of Fred Blake - played by De Niro, along with his family, Maggie Blake - played by Pfeiffer and their two children, Belle and Warren Blake.

They are relocated to Normandy as part of a witness protection program.  However, because of their involvement with clan activities, they have a hard time fitting in, as old habits die hard.

What happens at the end?  Does their past catch up to them, or will they eventually fit in?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.
