Wow, for the first time ever...
Today, I went to the Levi's Store at Montréal's Centre Eaton because I was interested in a pair of 501 Jeans. I have already checked the price at Priape, since I would prefer to give my money to gay businesses as opposed to big chains. However, Priape did not have the colour I wanted... (Who knew that Priape sold jeans!), and the price between Priape and the Levi store was a whopping five cents.
First of all, I actually fit a 34 in Levi's. I have never been able to do that in my life... And I didn't even have to suck in anything to fit. Although, I thought perhaps the jeans were a little tight. I don't really know... What bugged me however, was the fact that they pressed for more items to be sold. I was asked if I needed a shirt, and then when I said I wasn't really a shirt and tie kind of guy, otehr items were pressed... And I tried to fend it off, but I still ended up buying one green shirt. I was looking to add to my long sleeve collection, since my long sleeve clothes are getting worn and I need to add new items to replace worn items. However, I really hate it when people pressure me to try and spend more money than I really want to. Thank goodness I have 14 days to return the shirt if I want to.
I'm actually pretty good when I walk into a store, since I usually already know what I'm looking for, and what I want. So, about 95% of the time, the sales rep just gets the commission on the pair of jeans, or whatever item I went in to buy.
It's also amazing that pretty much any clothing store you go into, they try to get you to spend more than you want to. When you buy pants, they ask you if you need a shirt... Apparently, in some clothing companies, there's a written policy that when a customer buy pants, you are to press the customer to buy two shirts. I also get pretty stingy when the sales rep try to sell me something that costs more than the item that I am buying. I.e. if the pair of jeans I'm buying is $54.99, good luck trying to sell me a denim jacket that costs $70.
I can never work in retail... Because in retail, you have to push the customers to buy stuff so that your quota is met and that your comission soars... However, I could never do it, since I hate it when people try and push me to buy more than I intended to spend. I would hate to push someone to buy more than they need.
