You call this a sale?

This weekend, March 28, 2008 to March, 30, 2008, there's a sale for friends and family of Foot Locker. So, there's a big sale at Foot Locker.

And this is the sale in detail: 30% on any amount less than $150, and if you spend more than that, you'll get an extra 10% if you spend more than $150. These are all amounts before tax.

So, my friend and I thought that we would go shopping, because this looks like it's a good deal. Of course, like most promotions, there are restrictions. For this particular sale, the restrictions are the following:

No Nike Shox;
No Nike Air One;
No Nike Dunk;
No Puma;
No Converse Chuck Taylor;
and many many more that I don't remember. The list of restrictions was about three pages long. Well, I'm exaggerating here, but it was a very extensive list. Think of those Looney Tune cartoons where the King has a list of new decrees, and they unroll the parchment, and it stems from the room all the way to the village market? Yeah...

This basically boils down to anything in the store where there is a sticker of "Buy one, get the second at 50% off".

The reason why there are shoes with that particular sticker is because they are ugly and the store wants to get rid of them... And in the case of the stores, this means about 90% of their merchandise is not included in the sale...

As my friend whom I told this to stated, "That's not a sale." I concur. This is not a sale. Foot Locker should not have called this "Friends and Family sale". It should have been "Dummies and Idiots sale".

And since I am not a dummy nor an idiot, I did not buy anything in this sale. What type of crap advertising is this? Sheesh.

Up the Yangtze

On Tuesday, March 25, 2008, I went to see the film Up the Yangtze. This film is a documentary about the damming project in China, the Three Gorges Dam.

I didn't really get the point about this movie/documentary, and for a film that was 1.5 hours, it was way too long.

If someone else saw this film, and understood the point, please let me know.

Granted of course, I felt bad for the little girl who had to work on the ship because she came from a poor family, and they can't afford to send her off to high school. Her dream was to become a scientist, but right now, I think she needs to take a detour from that.

Charlie Bartlett

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, I went to see the film Charlie Bartlett. This is a film about an intelligent kid, and kind of mischievous. He has been kicked out of every private school, and usually for illegal things.

And so what happens is, he gets sent to a public school, and of course, has to deal with the peer pressure that most high school students deal with. And in order to become popular, he becomes a peer psychiatrist, and supplies students with prescriptions which he believes they need. Unfortunately, because of an incident (I won't say what, because that would spoil the movie)

A funny movie, not exactly a children's film, but for teenagers and adults... And Robert Downey Jr. as the principal and the father of the love interest of Charlie was definitely very enjoyable!

La Ligne Brisée

On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, I went to see the film La Ligne Brisée. This is a Quebecois film, featuring Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge, and David Boutin.

The story is about two best friends, who are boxers. One is Sebastien, played by David Boutin, and the other one Danny, played by Lemay-Thivierge. The story starts off with these two joy riding along a country road. They pay too much attention to joy riding, they didn't see a cyclist, and end up hitting her. (We find out later on in the movie that the victim was a woman).

Sebastien was on his way to being a star boxer, who had a chance at world champion. However, after this hit and run, he knew that he wouldn't have a chance, so he had to keep it quiet... And his friend Danny actually steps up and takes the blame for him, so that he can concentrate on winning the title. However, due to a guilty conscience, or him thinking about the situation, he couldn't concentrate and actually loses the match, a KO. But because he was hit so hard, he actually suffers muscle injuries.

And this was the beginning of the rupture of a friendship. Due to a bunch of misunderstandings and men acting stupid. And they challenging each other to get into the ring and box each other, so they can settle a score... Does this happen? What else happens in the movie? Well, you'll have to watch it to find out.

27 Dresses

On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, I went to see the film 27 Dresses, starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden. Heigl plays Jane Nichols, a wedding planner who claims that from the moment that she was eight years old, she knew that she wanted to plan weddings for a living. In fact, she believes that when it is someone's wedding, she should be there to make sure that everything is perfect, since it's their day.

She has a huge crush on the boss of the company, and everyone knows it, except for the boss himself. However, the boss doesn't even know that she exist, only except as a worker. She unexpected meets someone at one of the weddings that she's running, James Marsden, who plays the character of Kevin Doyle, a Commitments column journalist for a big New York newspaper.

The story is about the development of love between the two characters, and at teh same time, Jane, having to deal with the fact that her younger sister is about to get married to Jane's boss, and her long time crush! A hilarious movie with lots of laughs, and some heart warming moments.

This is a chick flick, but it is one that is enjoyable, at least in my opinion.
