More bureaucracy stupidity
I would like to take out a moment and highlight some things I find very stupid at a place where I teach aerobics. I will not mention the place here because I do not want to get in trouble or whatever.
Recently, this company/organization/enterprise decided that they would augment the instructors' salaries by $3/hour, and offer a new pay scale with hours... This is all fine and dandy, since their old rates were from about 20 years ago, and things have been getting more and more expensive, but wages haven't been going up at the same rate. However, there's a new twist... Now, this company/organization/enterprise decided that they will only hire their own instructors. I.e. If they are QTT Aerobic Fitness company, they will only hire the people that have a QTT Fitness Instructor Specialist Training program. Therefore, all existing instructors who work for QTT will now have to go through a process to obtain the QTT Certification. Hereafter, I will assume that the company name is QTT, so that it will be easier to continue my story.
Of course, this requirement ignores previous instructors who have done a certification elsewhere, who have kept it up with the original company, and who have years and years of experience. A colleague of mine, who has taught for 19 years, is also being asked to complete this task. Another colleague of mine, who has taught for 11 years, also has to complete this requirement. On top of that, they are only lending me, and anyone who's taking this requirement the manuals, and we do not have the right to mark them up in any way.
Personally, I cannot study without making notes in the textbook. I do not study that way. I guess I'll have to be environmentally not friendly by using sticky notes, or having a huge pad of notes on lined paper... Sigh...
The manual is also very poorly structured, and they go into details in a lot of stuff that does not need to be gone into detail for, in my opinion. I believe that my manual for when I did my training with another organization is a thousand, if not a million times better.
The QTT Company/Organization/Enterprise needs to get off its high horse about their training. It's actually really not that great. On top of that, it's not like the augmentation brings their salary any more competitive, most other places pay at least $5 or $10 more than what they offer. I do not know how they believe that they will keep their instructors. I could just imagine a lot of people will just jump through this hoop, get the paper, and then jump to go and teach at other gyms. I mean, it's very appealing to do that, and I may even consider this!
Some people who make decisions up high do not have the brain power to follow things through. It's amazing, really.

If I were you, I'd jump through the hoops but keep looking elsewhere. Doesn't sound like you've ever been too happy there.
