Loose Cannons (Mine vaganti)

On Tuesday, September 13, 2011 I went to see the movie Mine vaganti, Loose Cannons in English, which is an Italian film with English subtitles.

The movie is about Tomasso Cantone, the youngest son of a pasta business who has returned home because his father wanted to hand over the factory to him and his older brother.  Tomasso is gay, and intends to come out to everyone at a dinner party.  Before he goes to the party, he tells his brother just to test the waters and to see how his brother would react.  His brother urged him not to do so, that he should keep it quiet, but Tomasso doesn't agree.

It's the dinner party and Tomasso is ready to make his big announcement.  However, his bigger brother, Antonio, has an announcement of his own to make...  And it foils Tomasso's plans completely!

You'll have to watch the movie to find out what Antonio says!  Perhaps what he says might be a bit predictable, although it might be not, the movie is completely not predictable.  A very nicely done comedy with lots of witty banter and heart warming moments.  A must-see!

Being Quebecois = bad at math?

While I was reading an article in the newspaper this morning, I came across a news item which stated that Francophones would be in the minority by 2031, according to this new study. Upon further reading and understanding of the article, it is stated that: On the island of Montreal, by 2031, 47.4% of the population will be Francophone, 23% of the population will be Anglophone and 29% of the population will be Allophone (first language/mother tongue neither English or French) It also states in the article that in 2031, 77.9% of the population will be Francophone, while the study showed that in 2006, it was 79%. The PQ (Parti Québecois) and the QS (Québec Solidaire) are using this study to suggest the infamous Bill 101. The PQ wants to extend that to CEGEPs and the QS wants to apply that to companies with 25 employees or more. At the present moment, Bill 101 only applies until high school and to companies that have 50 employees or more. I don't buy this argument. 77.9% of population in Quebec is not a minority. A minority is determined as possibly less than 50%. Also, on the island of Montreal, 47.4% of the population is francophone, by 2031. Albeit that may be true, 29% of it is also Allophone. Bill 101 requires that children of Allophone parents go to French school and learn the French language. So, it's actually 47.4% + 29% = 76.4% that speak French, which is hardly a minority! I guess that politicians are not mathematicians. Clearly these mathematicians need to go back to school and relearn their math. They could experience the joy of the math reform here in Quebec!

More Air Canada Stupidity

I stumbled across this article today. Although, I heard about this somewhat on the news.

I have had experience with Canada. I didn't really enjoy the "customer service" I received recently. The flights were constantly delayed, the gates were constantly changing. No one knew their head from their asses.

And yet, they feel they need to add on baggage checking fees. What are we paying for exactly? Overpriced and crap quality food, shit customer service, rude service from front-line staff and now, baggage, which you cannot avoid, since it is practically impossible to travel without luggage. Not to mention, many of their staff are not eye-candy material...

Maybe if they actually focused on keeping their customers satisfied by offering good quality service and not shitty customer service and crap excuses, people might actually keep flying with Air Canada. Gee, what a concept!!!
