Love Is All You Need (Den skaldede frisør)

On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, I went to see the movie Love Is All You Need (Den skaldede frisør).  This is a Danish production, but some of it was shot in Italy.

The story is about Ida, a hairdresser who is dealing with breast cancer and its recovery, who meets the father of her daughter's fiancé.  She also finds out that her husband is having an affair with Hilde, of the finance department of his company.  The movie is about her going to Italy, dealing with these events/issues and also discovering herself as well as rediscovering love...

The only actor that I recognized in this movie is Pierce Brosnan, who plays the father of Patrick, the husband to be.

I found this movie to be light and there were some unexpected turns.  It's not something that really requires you to rack your brain.  One of those feel good movies.  My only beef with this movie is that there are certain story lines that have no closure, which means that the viewer has to interpret the outcome of those story lines...  Not necessarily something that I would want to do.

Rob Ford on Crack Cocaine

So, I just came across a link today that Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, has stated that he does not use crack cocaine...

Just like Bill Clinton, in the mid-nineties, "not having sexual relationships with that woman..."

Still Mine

On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, I went to see the movie Still Mine.

This movie is based on true story of an elderly couple who was trying a home on their property, but only to have be faced with troubles from the building board.  The protagonist's name is Craig Morrison.  Craig is trying to build a new home to suit his partner's needs, since the home that they are living in right now no longer suits them.

There is also a story about an elderly couple who love each other, but one of them is suffering from memory loss, as well as children's caring for their parents.

A very heart-warming film.

The Place Beyond the Pines

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, I went to see the movie The Place Beyond the Pines, featuring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.

The story is about Luke, played by Gosling, who is a motorcycle stunt person with a travelling circus.  You know, the ones that go into a spherical cage and then travel at high speeds without colliding with each other...  We find out that he had a lover, Romina - played by Mendes, with whom he had a child.  Luke is unaware that there is a child.

To provide for his child, named Jason, he decided to quit the circus, stay in town and worked as a mechanic's aide for minimum wage.  However, to provide a better future for Jason, Luke turns to robbing banks.

Things seem to be going well, as well as they could, since Luke was doing something wrong...  Until one day he gets too ambitious and tries to rob two banks at once...  And on top of it, he forgets his sunglasses, which is usually used to hide his face.  This robbery takes a not-so-hot turn and he ends up with cops on his tail.

Without going into other details about the movie, like how is Bradley Cooper's character, Officer Avery Cross, important to this story, I want to assure you that this was a very well written crime drama, with the story of Luke robbing banks just the tip of the iceberg.  There are so many other things that occur during this movie/story that is really worth the time to watch the movie.

The movie is about two and a half hours, but it was very well done.  Very worthwhile movie, it is excellent worth your time as well...  Not to mention you'll get a good deal for your money.

The Great Gatsby

On Tuesday, May 14, 2013 I went to see the movie The Great Gatsby.  This is based upon the book by Scott F. Fitzgerald.

The movie features Leonardo Di Caprio as Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanon, Tobey McGuire as Nick Carraway and Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanon.  This movie talks about McGuire (Carraway) who learns about his neighbour (Gatsby) and the deep and dark secrets he holds.

It's a classic love story, but done with great acting on Leonardio Di Caprio's part as well as a mixture of older and newer music.

I really enjoyed this movie.  It is worth it.  It may not be better than the book, but it's good in its own way.

The Big Wedding

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, I went to see the movie The Big Wedding.  This movie features many big stars that have been acting for quite some time, mixed with stars who have less experience.  Here are some stars that were in the movie:

Robert De Niro
Susan Sarandon
Diane Keaton
Robin Williams
Amanda Seyfried
Katherine Heigl
Topher Grace

Now, this movie has gotten some mixed reviews...  I thought that the movie was great.  It was funny, the acting was great and there were quite a few moments where I laughed really heartily.  I also felt that in general, it was a feel good movie that made me feel good at the end.

The plot, albeit a bit thin, was about Missy (Seyfried) and Alejandro (Ben Barnes), who were getting married.  Alejandro is an adopted son, who was raised by Don (De Niro) and Ellie (Keaton).  Those two have divorced and Don now lives with Bebe (Sarandon).  For the wedding, Don and Ellie have to act like they are still married, because Alejandro's biological mother, Madonna (Patricia Rae) has decided to come from Columbia to the wedding.

Other side characters include Jared and Lyla (Grace and Heigl) who are the two eldest siblings of Alejandro.

I really enjoyed myself and I feel that this is a really nice feel-good movie.
