The Place Beyond the Pines

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, I went to see the movie The Place Beyond the Pines, featuring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.

The story is about Luke, played by Gosling, who is a motorcycle stunt person with a travelling circus.  You know, the ones that go into a spherical cage and then travel at high speeds without colliding with each other...  We find out that he had a lover, Romina - played by Mendes, with whom he had a child.  Luke is unaware that there is a child.

To provide for his child, named Jason, he decided to quit the circus, stay in town and worked as a mechanic's aide for minimum wage.  However, to provide a better future for Jason, Luke turns to robbing banks.

Things seem to be going well, as well as they could, since Luke was doing something wrong...  Until one day he gets too ambitious and tries to rob two banks at once...  And on top of it, he forgets his sunglasses, which is usually used to hide his face.  This robbery takes a not-so-hot turn and he ends up with cops on his tail.

Without going into other details about the movie, like how is Bradley Cooper's character, Officer Avery Cross, important to this story, I want to assure you that this was a very well written crime drama, with the story of Luke robbing banks just the tip of the iceberg.  There are so many other things that occur during this movie/story that is really worth the time to watch the movie.

The movie is about two and a half hours, but it was very well done.  Very worthwhile movie, it is excellent worth your time as well...  Not to mention you'll get a good deal for your money.
