Love and Friendship

On Tuesday, July 5, 2016, I went to see the movie Love and Friendship, featuring Kate Beckinsale, Chloe Sevigny, Stephen Fry, Xavier Samuel and Emma Greenwell.

This movie is based on the Jane Austen novella, Lady Susan.  Beckinsale plays Lady Susan Vernon, a widower who is trying to secure her future and her daughter's future because back in those days, women had to marry into money (or men had to marry into money).  Since Lady Susan was a widow, she is looking for a husband for herself, as well as a well-off husband for her daughter, Frederica.  Of course, lady Susan is a highly manipulative, flirtatious woman who knows her way around men and how they work.  Her best friend, and her confidante, is Alicia Johnson, played by Chloe Sevigny.

The vocabulary in this movie is very rich and practically every line is delivered with a double entendre or a hidden meaning.  A highly entertaining movie that I think did not get as much credit as it deserved.  And Kate Beckinsale played a really convincing Lady Susan Vernon.

A fun movie, delightful and rich, and a movie filled with eye candy as well.
