Jumper

On Tuesday, February 26, 2008, I went to see the film Jumper featuring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson. The story is about Hayden Christensen's character, David Rice, who has the ability to teleport anywhere. However, what he doesn't realize is that there is a war between jumpers (people who teleport), and paladins (religious folk who believe that only God has this power), and therefore, is on a religious crusade to kill them.

A highly entertaining film with lots of special effects. Lots of loopholes, but hey, it's an entertaining film. And well, being easy on the eyes helps.

This film strikes a chord with me. The religious paladins (which I think are more nutbags) who go around hunting jumpers because they have the ability to jump, and the paladins believe that only God should have this ability. That's sort of like hunting people who are different rather racially, spiritually, sexual-orientation wise, and killing them because they are not people who were created by God.

And who knew that this was based on a book?

It's been a long time since that has happened...

Today, while I was taking the TTC (yes, I am in Toronto, and thus I was taking a bus in Toronto) to get to my dentist's appointment, something happened to me that hasn't happened to me in a long time. Let me explain.

When I got off the bus, I was friendly and greeted the driver and stated, "Thank you, have a good day."

I believe the response I got was, "You too, ma'am". However, I didn't quite hear the end, because ma'am and man sounds pretty similar, especially on a bus at a busy intersection.

If it is the latter, as the driver is trying to be young and hip, then no, I was not mistaken as a woman. However, if it's the former... That hasn't happened to me since Grade eight. (Well, that's the last incident I recall). That was during my puberty years.

Last time I checked, I looked pretty much like a man, and people don't really have difficulty telling. I guess now that I have a pretty short haircut, I look like an andrygenous butch lesbian? I don't know. Anyway, it's an interesting experience. A weird experience before I had to fork out about $170 for dental work, only half of which I will be getting back... * grumbles *

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

On Tuesday, February 12, 2008, I went to see the movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets, featuring Nicholas Cage. There were a bunch of other well known actors as well, like Helen Mirren. I thought that she played again Queen Elizabeth, but it turns out that she just played the mother to Benjamin Franklin Bell (Nicholas Cage's character).

This movie was bad, but not as terrible as the experts said. Lots of explosions, lots of action and "adventure". But huge holes in the storyline. For example, how can no one in the story suspect that a duplicate copy of Ben's phone was made by another treasure hunter? Ben's father was mugged, but "nothing was taken from the house". Hmm... I don't know, if I nothing was taken from the house, I wouldn't be mugged for no reason? Well, the other logical reason must be: "Yeah, someone must have taken a duplicate copy of my phone, or bugged it or something..."

And then towards the end of the movie, the bad guy becomes a hero? What the hell? What type of crap story writing is this?

Can Fit Pro Conference - Montreal 2008 (Day 1)

Today, Saturday, February 9, 2008, was the first day of my fitness conference here in Montreal. I volunteered there, so I get to attend half of it for free, while the other half, I work/help out. I am a room monitor, which means that I get to stay in a room and watch some sessions. While I worked today, I watched two sessions, one was Sensual Strip Tease and another was AeroBoButt. The latter was a workshop/workout where we went through some routines in aerobics, kick box and butt work. The former was a workshop/workout where an entire new approach has been designed for aerobics. These moves are sensual/sexy moves that allow the participants to get their heart rate up. It's not a lot, since the moves do not require as much energy as a step class or an aerobics class, but it's fun. I learned some moves myself... And let me tell you, all the scrubs that passed me up really missed something now! (Haha)

We have a bunch of numbnuts as a government

Since when did voting on a bill become a confidence motion in the Senate?

The Conservatives have said that if the Senate rejects the tough on crime bill, which includes a clause of upping the age of consent, it will be seen as a lack of confidence.

Last time I checked, voting on some bill is not a confidence motion. The only "bill" that is a confidence motion is the budget, and there could be some other ones that are more important.

Why did the Canadian people vote the Conservatives in? Are they trying to tell the world that they are numbnuts too?

I think the numbnuts, I mean the people in the government, misuse this notion of confidence.

The Kite Runner

On Tuesday, February 5, 2008, I went to see the movie The Kite Runner. I went into this movie without any knowledge of what it was going to be about, nor about the storyline, or whatever. I thought it was going to be the story about two boys, one or both of them who ran after kites. I had no idea it was about an Afghani writer, Amir.

The story is about his childhood, and how he was bullied with his friend. His father was worried that he would never become a man. Then the story changes and you see the Soviet invasion in 1979, and then his life that followed after. Amir actually ends up going back to his home country to help out a friend of his father's.

I don't want to say too much, because if I do, it sort of gives the film away, which would be spoiling it. It was a good film, I enjoyed it, and especially since I did not know what I would be getting into, it made the film that much more enjoyable.

An eye-opening piece of cinema that allows people to get an inside glimpse of how things possibly are in the Taliban regime.

All I will say is that the film comes full circle, which is always a nice way to end movies.

I never realized...

I never thought that Destiny's Child could be this empowering... But Independent Women Part I, Survivor and Bootylicious are not just catchy songs, but they are actually quite empowering! I suppose since I just had a rotten romance experience, I relate a bit more to these songs, but oh well.

These three songs all fall off of Survivor, the album.
