Dim Sum for one... Hurts the wallet
I had the hankering for dim sum so I went to the restaurant for dim sum today.
Boy, is dim sum for one not economical!
I had eight dishes and the bill came to $27.50!
I had:
1) Beef ribs with black pepper;
2) Fried taro pastry;
3) Spring rolls;
4) Shui Mai;
5) Shark fin dumpling; (the steamed ones where there is little to no shark fin)
6) Taro cake;
7) Little pork buns (Siu Long Bao);
8) Fried Pork pastry.
For that price, I could have gone for all you can eat sushi at dinner...
Lesson to learn: Don't go to Dim sum for one. I will no longer be doing that again. When I ordered, I was already ordering conservatively. I really picked and chose the ones that I really really wanted. I have been told that the fun part of dim sum is to go and not order conservatively!
One good thing about Toronto is that my meal there would have cost $15 - $20. Max!

Dimsum is definitely more fun the more people you have, because you can order a huge variety of food :-)
I miss Toronto dimsum. There's nothing remotely like it here in small town California. Americanized Chinese food is expensive, and dimsum means... er... spring rolls. Authentic Chinese food doesn't even exist.
No one's heard of "vegetarian Chinese food"... the closest place I can get something like that is 1.5 hr's drive north at this Buddhist canteen.
