Le règne de beauté (An Eye for Beauty)

On Tuesday, May 27, 2014, I went to see the movie Le règne de la beauté (An Eye for Beauty), the latest Denys Arcand film featuring Éric Bruneau.

This movie is about an architect by the name of Luc Sauvageau, played by Bruneau, who is a world reknown architect.  He starts off the movie by getting a medal...  As he is being congratulated, he is wished his success by Lindsay Walker, an old flame of his that he met while on an assignment in Toronto...

And then we delve into the story of how this all occurred and possibly why it occurred, etc.

It was a nicely done movie, although I didn't quite like the ending.

Brick Mansions

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, I went to see the movie Brick Mansions.  This was the last movie that Paul Walker starred in.

This movie is about the city of Detroit in 2018, where crime has gotten so bad that they have built walls around a part of the city and called it the Brick Mansions neighbourhood.  To survive, a warlord has taken over and decided to run a drug trade to keep himself afloat.

It also stars, Detective Collier, played by Walker, who is obsessed with trying to arrest the top drug dealer, because this person was responsible for his father's death.

This movie is based upon the movie Banlieue 13, which was shot in France and features David Belle (he's also in Brick Mansions) and lots of parkour.  However, they changed quite a few things.

Personally, I thought the original was better.

Rio 2

On Tuesday, May 14, 2014, I went to see the movie Rio 2, featuring the voice talents of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Will. i. am., Jamie Foxx, Bruno Mars and a whole bunch of other actors.

The story takes place after the first movie, where the two last blue macaws were mated and they created three offspring.  They settled in Rio, because that's where the two owners, two bird lovers also fell in love and settled.  Blue (Eisenberg) and his children are used to a city life, while Jewel (Hathaway) is more used to a jungle life.  While Blue was making pancakes with blueberries for his children, they see on the TV that their owners Tulio and Linda might have found blue macaws in the wild.  So, they fly off in search of this.

What happens next?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out.  But this time around, there are two villains in this movie and not just one...  Nigel from the last movie makes a return, as we found out that he was not killed in the mishap of the first movie and he wants his revenge.  However, there's also the head hancho of an illegal logging corporation in the Amazon that also threatens our protagonists.

Uvanga

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, I went to see the movie Uvanga.  This is the Inuit movie.

M'eh.

This film was indie.  Tried to be indie...  Classic storyline of indie.  Put all the sad sob stories together...  Death of the father that's unresolved as there are fifteen gazillion different stories floating around...  Mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  People with drinking problems, gambling problems, etc...

Though I do salute them for showing the reality as well as using local actors...  That's about all the credit I can give them.  The rest of it...  M'eh.  Really.  M'eh.
