A dark day in Canadian politics

On May 2, 2011, Stephen Harper and his Conservatives, which is actually Canadian Alliance or Reform in disguise, has been elected to a majority government. It's amazing how quickly people have forgotten about the merger and that this is really just a repainting of the Canadian Alliance.

For the past couple of years, we have had minority governments. Now... the people of Canada have handed Stephen Harper a majority government. Already, for the past couple of years, there has been a lot of shit that has happened when it was only a minority government. He's cut funding to women's groups, ethnic groups. One of his ministers modified a document for her benefit. He cost us a seat on the UN. He wanted to push for Sun TV, which is equivalent to Fox News North... Where Fox News won a lawsuit to basically lie to its viewers. He was the first PM to be found in contempt of parliament... And the list goes on! And this was just with a minority government... Where there were reins on him. Now that we have handed him his coveted majority, he's got no reins... He can ram through any legislature that he wants.

Usually when anyone is found in contempt of anything, they get fired from their job. What does the Canadian public than do? They re-elect him. What does this say about Canadians? How stupid does this make us look? (The ones that didn't vote Conservative)

How does it make us look internationally when there are people who are living bloodshed to try and get the ability to vote and we spit on our democracy by electing back someone in who's been found in contempt of parliament? For the first time in Canadian History?

I am very disappointed in the Canadian voters, especially the ones in Ontario who went Conservative blue instead of voting strategically. Thanks for screwing us, a lot. I fear that women's rights, ethnic rights, aboriginal rights, minority rights, education, health care and a whole bunch of other things will suffer because of the lack of people who refused or didn't care to vote strategically. Instead of riding the NDP wave and being open to change, these fucking Ontarians went with what was "safe". Mark my lips: No one is safe with Harper and his Conservatives. Unless you are white, heterosexual and male. Thanks for making the middle class even poorer and widening the gap between the rich and the poor. Well, I guess that's what those mega prisons are for... Even though research has shown that crime has been on the decline for the past couple of years, and these stupid Ontarians still voted for a platform and mega prisons.

It's going to be a very very dark four years in Canadian politics and history.

I suppose it is not all bad... Other things were positive. We have an NDP official opposition, but they don't have enough seats and all they could do is whine... And for the first time ever, we have Elizabeth May, the leader who has been elected MP in Saanich-Gulf Islands. The first time that the Green Party got a seat in parliament.

I hope with these forces, they can stop Harper and his right-wing extremism.
