Rachel Getting Married
On Tuesday, October 21, 2008, I went to see the movie Rachel Getting Married. This is a movie where Anne Hathaway plays a model who has just spent nine months in rehab, and she goes home for the weekend, because it's her sister's wedding.
Anne Hathaway plays the sister of Rachel, whose name is Kim. I couldn't determine from the movie which sister was older. Kim gets home just the moment where the wedding preparations are in full swing.
Of course, like many families, there are some problems that surface themselves, and there is also a lack of communication. Kim did not know about a lot of stuff, for example. She knew about her sister getting married, but she didn't know for example that they were going to be living in Hawaii, etc. etc.
It's a very interesting story, and there is a lot that occurs over a weekend, for the weekend. She's certainly got some demons herself (Kim), but she attempts to overcome them.
Hathaway apparently did a lot of research on this role, a role of someone who's dealing with addiction issues and coming out of rehab. I think she gave a very good performance, and maybe she'll get an Oscar nod. However, I don't know if she'll get the Oscar for it.
What bugged me about the wedding is that they had an Indian themed wedding. However, none of the participants were Indian. Rachel's family is white (some German descent, I believe), and Rachel's spouse, his family is black.
I could also just see *Raoul and *Rupert copying this wedding almost word for word... However, since *Rupert doesn't "do" ethnic cuisine, I think we'll be okay. However, copying a wedding in full by whom is just cheesy in any context.
