Bridget Jones' Baby

On Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, I went to see the movie Bridget Jones' Baby.  This is the third movie in the series, featuring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Patrick Dempsey, Gemma Jones, Jim Broadbent and Celia Imrie.  The movie follows our protagonist, Bridget Jones, who accepted a proposal to Mark Darcy played by Colin Firth.  However, at the beginning of the movie, we discover that Bridget Jones is again newly single.  But, this time around, all of her friends now have babies and can't celebrate birthdays with her.  Including her gay friend who bailed because he and his partner were going to adopt a baby...

So, Bridget decides to go on a spa weekend with her work friend and it turns out to be a music festival.  At this festival, she meets Jack, played by Patrick Dempsey.  And since she made a promise to her work friend that she would "sleep with the first man she met", Bridget ends up having sex with Jack.

The next day, she goes to a christening of a baby and her ex, Mark Darcy, was there.  It is clear that Bridget cannot move on from Mark Darcy, but she has very awkward interactions with him.  And it turns out that he is unhappy in the relationship/marriage (it was understood that Mark Darcy was married to his wife, soon to be ex-wife Camilla) and that he was getting a divorce.  So, Bridget ends up sleeping with him.

This all happened within the timespan of a few days.  So as Bridget tries to get on with her life and her weight lost goals, etc., she can't fit into these jeans that she wanted to.  Then her friend just puts the option of perhaps she is pregnant out there.

At first Bridget didn't think that it would be a viable option.  However, a pregnancy test confirmed that she was indeed pregnant!

What happens next?  Who's the father?  Is it Mark Darcy, the person with whom she did not make it work after ten years?  Or is it the charming, gentlemanly Jack Quant?

Emma Thompson, who plays a small role in this movie, the doctor who's in charge of Bridget and her pregnancy, was fantastic in her role.  I love what Emma Thompson does.
