Heaven on Earth

On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, I went to see the movie Heaven on Earth. This was a movie by the director of Deepa Mehta. She was the director of such films such as Fire, Water, Earth.

This movie is about Chand, a newly wed wife in an arranged marriage. She leaves India to come to Canada, and gets married to Rocky, an Indo-Canadian man. Chand walks into a marriage, not knowing her husband at all. What happens is she walks into an abusive relationship... The movie is about her dealing with this reality by creating her own virtual reality.

However, the difficult part of the movie is that I couldn't tell whether or not the coloured scenes were in her memory, or if the black and white ones were in her memory. She fluctuates between reality, and her life based on a fable.

An interesting film, but it can be a bit confusing.
